{"id":2030,"date":"2013-08-14T23:14:37","date_gmt":"2013-08-14T22:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.danielebesana.com\/blog\/?p=2030"},"modified":"2015-02-21T17:34:04","modified_gmt":"2015-02-21T16:34:04","slug":"dance-salsa-istanbul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danielebesana.com\/blog\/salsa\/dance-salsa-istanbul","title":{"rendered":"Where to dance Salsa in Istanbul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I visited Istanbul for a week, from 2nd till 9th Augustus 2013.<br \/>\nI have to say that it was a particular period of the year, as it was between the end of <em>ramadam <\/em>and the beginning of <em>eid<\/em>, one of the big Muslim celebrations but also holidays time for non religious people.<br \/>\nThis means that there were less people than normal dancing around, anyway this is my report from Istanbul Salsa scene.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Saturday: Fresco<\/h2>\n<p>Location: Fresco, Technical university, Taksim area.<br \/>\nEntrance fee: 15 tl.<\/p>\n<p>WOW! My first contact with the local scene left my very impressed.<br \/>\nThis is a nice club with a rather big outdoor area, perfect for the hot but windy summer days.<br \/>\nIt wasn&#8217;t crowded, leaving everyone enough space for dancing and shining.<br \/>\nAnd people were shining big time!<br \/>\nI found the level very high, with mainly on2 dancers on the floor.<br \/>\nMost of the couples were alternating fast and energetic partner-work with shines (pasitos) and improvisation.<br \/>\nI had a good time with few dances with friendly girls, everyone was very nice and I met few tourists as well as locals.<br \/>\nI also appreciate the music, the dj was alternating mambo, Salsa, cuban Salsa, bachatas and every now and then a chacha.<br \/>\nEven popular numbers were presented in some different version, <em>bravo!<\/em><br \/>\nHighly recommended but&#8230; don&#8217;t get intimidated by the level!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Wednesday: My House<\/h2>\n<p>Location:\u00a0SIRASELVILER CAD. NO:35\/1 TAKSIM Area<br \/>\nWeb:\u00a0<a title=\"My House\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taksimmyhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.taksimmyhouse.com\/<br \/>\n<\/a>Entrance fee: 20 tl.<\/p>\n<p>I arrived there quite late, around midnight, and in complete <em>desabille&#8217;<\/em> &#8211; meaning sandals.<br \/>\nI\u00a0 told them I just wanted to have a look, plus it was late so I got in for free.<br \/>\nIt was my first time dancing on sandals and it went pretty OK \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\nThe level there wasn&#8217;t as impressive as Fresco, but people were having fun and I easily invited few girls.<br \/>\nSome were trolling me that they were beginners but dancing with them I had a different impression&#8230;\u00a0 so, talking around I realized that Turkish have a long dance tradition, from belly dancing to <em>sufi <\/em>rituals.<br \/>\nIt all made sense then! They were beginners in Salsa but already dancers.<br \/>\nDancing is not engrained into Italian culture, unfortunately.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Thursday: Topless Club<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2144\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2144\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2144 \" title=\"Roof Salsa dancing\" src=\"https:\/\/www.danielebesana.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_4120-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Roof Salsa dancing\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/danielebesana.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_4120-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/danielebesana.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_4120-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2144\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roof Salsa dancing<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Location: Topless club,\u00a0?stiklal Caddesi No12 Kat6 , 34435 Beyo?lu<br \/>\nEntrance free: 25 tl, including one drink.<\/p>\n<p>This club has a top location, literally!<br \/>\nIt sits on top of a 6 storeys building right next to Taksim square.<br \/>\nFrom this top-roof bar the view over the city is fantastic, add good Latin music and people dancing in the summer breeze over Istanbul, to have one of the best location I&#8217;ve seen!<br \/>\nIt wasn&#8217;t much crowded, that was a pity, but people were friendly (Turkish Salsa girls generally don&#8217;t say &#8216;no&#8217; to a dance) and I invited them with my new Turkish language skill: <em>danc edermisin?<\/em><br \/>\nOne local girl didn&#8217;t believe that I was a bloody foreigner even after I switched to English!
