{"id":2604,"date":"2014-04-27T14:24:08","date_gmt":"2014-04-27T13:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.danielebesana.com\/blog\/?p=2604"},"modified":"2014-04-27T14:32:03","modified_gmt":"2014-04-27T13:32:03","slug":"visiting-salento-zona-cafetera-colombia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danielebesana.com\/blog\/life\/travels\/visiting-salento-zona-cafetera-colombia","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Salento, in the Zona Cafetera of Colombia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a weekend of parties, a visit in a nice village is a very nice cure: it gives at least the illusion of some relax and early nights&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Salento is a little town in the Eje Cafetero, the area of Colombia producing the biggest (legal) export of the country: good coffee beans.<\/p>\n<p>There you&#8217;ll find a bunch of backpackers and unusual cold locals tired of them, plus you can do at least 4 things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>walk in the\u00a0Valle de Cocora, a beautiful national park with the Colombian national tree, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ceroxylon_quindiuense\" target=\"_blank\">the wax palm<\/a>, that grown up to\u00a0 50 meters<\/li>\n<li>do horse-riding in the <em>sentiero national <\/em>surrounded by the most amazing nature<\/li>\n<li>visit a coffee plantation and learn more about the liquid that\u00a0you think keeps you alive<\/li>\n<li>chillax (chilling + relax, optionally reading, writing or the like)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I did 3 of those 4 things. I had to skip the Cocora Park because with my knee injury I still wasn&#8217;t comfortable walking for 4-5 hours, but surely I missed out looking at the picture below&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/3\/39\/Cocora_valley.JPG\/640px-Cocora_valley.JPG\" alt=\"Cocora Valley, Salento\" width=\"439\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Welcome to the Marlboro Country<\/h2>\n<p>This is how I felt from the moment I jumped on the horse.<br \/>\nI\u00a0was on a horse only once before in my life: <a title=\"5 days in the jungle, hiking Ciudad Perdida, Colombia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.danielebesana.com\/blog\/life\/travels\/5-days-jungle-hiking-ciudad-perdida-colombia\" target=\"_blank\">when they had bring me down Ciudad Perdida after I injured my knee<\/a>. But surely I wouldn&#8217;t call that &#8220;horse riding&#8221; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So there I was, on a well educated horse, learning how to deal with the animal, walking down this\u00a0<em>sentiero national\u00a0<\/em>and in a gree valley, passing a tunnel originally made for a railway that was never completed, continuing until a natural waterfall that with the right view angle has the shape of the holy mater.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Beautiful experience. great tool to play against proud Americans met further on in my <em>walkabout<\/em> \ud83d\ude42 &#8211; a lot of relax can be catched up here.<br \/>\nAnd yes, drinking the locally produced coffee.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s great quality, but can&#8217;t stand the Colombian formula of the\u00a0<em>tinto<\/em>, a very watery black coffee&#8230; how is it possible that the coffee beans produced here have to travel till Italy to have a good espresso?!? \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a class=\"thickbox\" title=\"hostel Tralala\" href=\"https:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-OjPI06Y_aO0\/TiChal04G1I\/AAAAAAAACQw\/sA_6emnv0FY\/IMG_1386.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[2604]\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"hostel Tralala\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-OjPI06Y_aO0\/TiChal04G1I\/AAAAAAAACQw\/sA_6emnv0FY\/s150-c\/IMG_1386.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1386.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">hostel Tralala<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And talking about hostels, I was in one of the best I found here in Colobia: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hosteltralalasalento.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">hostel Tralala&#8217;<\/a>, owned by a nice Dutchmen (as the orange color gives away).<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 13px;
