{"id":3387,"date":"2015-06-09T10:07:32","date_gmt":"2015-06-09T09:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.danielebesana.com\/blog\/?p=3387"},"modified":"2015-09-03T14:50:31","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T13:50:31","slug":"online-income-report-may-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danielebesana.com\/blog\/online-income-report\/online-income-report-may-2015","title":{"rendered":"Online Income Report &#8211; May 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The month of May marked my first <strong>three years<\/strong> as a self-employed, so it came with many self-reflections and considerations of where I am and where I&#8217;m going.<\/p>\n<p>And I had a big realization: with my\u00a0current way of work I can&#8217;t grow any further.<\/p>\n<p>In the last 6 months I had no growth in my business: I can invest more money buying\u00a0more websites and scale <strong>horizontally<\/strong>, but I can&#8217;t grow the websites I have unless I put more work on them.<\/p>\n<p>Below a quick summary of some activities that kept me busy in May and the financial report.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s going on<\/h2>\n<h3>Focus and Execute<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0first three years as a web entrepreneurs were full of experiments in many different directions, to see what I like and what works for me.<\/p>\n<p>I eventually found myself busy with too many different things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WordPress consultancies\n<ul>\n<li>Working on multiple client projects;<\/li>\n<li>Providing maintenance &amp; support with 5 active contracts;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Running my own websites\n<ul>\n<li>Job boards in south America<\/li>\n<li>Job board on international development<\/li>\n<li>Few Adsense niche blogs<\/li>\n<li>An Amazon affiliate blog<\/li>\n<li>A WordPress theme for sale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since I do 90% of the work myself (I only outsource content creation for some blogs) that means only one thing: <strong>lack of focus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the reason I could not grow further. With no focus, my websites survive\u00a0on little maintenance, keep providing a nice income but aren&#8217;t growing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: 32px;\"><strong>So I took a big decision.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I choose to change three things to start with:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Reducing\u00a0client work<\/strong>. WordPress consultancies are quite rewarding but I&#8217;m just selling my time to other people projects and aren&#8217;t adding value to my entrepreneurial journey. I&#8217;ve been working for customers all my life and I know I can be good servicing them. This means I&#8217;m increasing my consultancy rates and only take on board\u00a0the best opportunities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus on two projects<\/strong>. I decided to focus on two websites I believe can grow in the next months: QuadHangar (review website about drones) and RouterFreak (blog for IT network engineers).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eliminate what I&#8217;m no more interested<\/strong>. This means maybe sacrificing some little income to free my time and mental space.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I&#8217;m taking steps in these directions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>The first acquired website is unforgettable<\/h3>\n<p>In December 2011 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.danielebesana.com\/blog\/biz\/i-got-websites\">I bought my first websites<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/flippa.com\/2671749-3-job-boards-earning-over-400-month-in-adsense-profit\" target=\"_blank\">Flippa<\/a>. Three job boards for $6800, back then ~\u20ac5000. They were supposed to generate $400\/month and they weren&#8217;t far from it for the first months.<\/p>\n<p>They proven to be a good investment and a source of great lessons for the young Besa moving in the online world!<\/p>\n<p>But I eventually grow tired of them and in the last year I literally spent no more than 30 seconds a day approving the pending jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Revenues decreased and the quality of the jobs there too: it sucks to discover that some opportunities were scams or multi-level-marketing crap targeting job seekers.<\/p>\n<p>So I was quite happy to sell the websites for <strong>\u20ac1100<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s <strong>16x the monthly net profit<\/strong> generated in the last months, plus I knew the buyer already and things went smooth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Joining a MasterMind<\/h3>\n<p><em>&#8220;Joining a mastermind was the best decision I made for my business!&#8221; &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>I heard this sentence many times so I decided to try it myself and I joined a mastermind group for online publishers.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>what&#8217;s a mastermind?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Mastermind group is made by fine folks that are meeting regularly to discuss business-related challenges, exchange opinions and ideas, educate each other and keep them self accountable.<\/p>\n<p>In my case, we&#8217;re 5 entrepreneur from all around the world meeting every Tuesday in\u00a0Google Hangouts to discuss about online publishing challenges and ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Having a group of peers sharing the same goals and motivate each others to achieve them is <strong>exactly what I needed<\/strong>. I feel a super-boost of motivation and I had some very productive weeks since I joined the group &#8211; mainly because every Tuesday we&#8217;re sharing our progresses, challenges and quick-wins.<\/p>\n<p>I found this mastermind group through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dynamitecircle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dynamite\u00a0circle<\/a>, the online sect I&#8217;m devoted to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Update on ComeCostruire.info<\/h3>\n<p>Mid-December I started an experiment of <strong>passive income<\/strong>\u00a0in the Italian market, notably less crowded than the English one, with the website\u00a0<a title=\"Come Costruire\" href=\"https:\/\/comecostruire.info\" target=\"_blank\">ComeCostruire.info<\/a>. That&#8217;s\u00a0the Italian version of my Spanish blog ComoHacer about manual works and\u00a0DIY.<\/p>\n<p>May\u00a0traffic was up to 3,415 visitors (+45.32%) with 5,896 page views (+45.69%) and what&#8217;s most remarkable is the Adsense profit of\u00a0\u20ac16.51 (was\u00a0\u20ac7.87 in April)!<\/p>\n<p>You may wonder why I bother about \u20ac16 considering that\u00a0with that money in Amsterdam I can&#8217;t buy more then\u00a0a salad and an orange juice in an average cafe.<\/p>\n<p>Surely that&#8217;s a very valid point, but I invested in this project \u20ac360 and generated so far\u00a0\u20ac42.93 in 5 months.
